Chaos in the skies: Heathrow shuts down after massive fire

Heathrow Airport in London has been closed all day due to a major electrical fire at a nearby substation, causing widespread power outages and significant disruptions.

The fire, which began around 11:30 PM Thursday, led to the explosion of the airport’s main electrical substation, forcing the airport to shut down for safety reasons.

Authorities warn that the closure may last for several days, affecting around 200,000 passengers and causing at least 1,357 flight cancellations, delays, or diversions. Other European airports are bracing for rerouted flights. Rail services to and from Heathrow have also been canceled.

While backup power systems are in place, their activation takes time. Investigations into the fire’s cause are ongoing.
