A tragic crash occurred on January 29, 2025, when a plane carrying U.S. Figure Skating National Development Camp participants collided with a military Black Hawk helicopter near Washington, D.C. Among the victims were 13-year-old skater Jinna Han, her mother, and other skaters, coaches, and parents from The Skating Club of Boston. The flight was returning from Wichita, Kansas, after the U.S. Championships.
Jinna Han was a promising skater known for her technical skills and grace. The Skating Club of Boston mourned the loss, describing her as a serious competitor with a supportive attitude toward fellow skaters. The crash also claimed former world champions Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, along with their trainees.
The collision, involving 60 passengers and four crew members on the plane, and three military personnel in the helicopter, led to a crash into the Potomac River.
